Yoga is a classical Indian science dealing with the search of the soul. Hatha Yoga combines postures (asanas) with breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation. The asanas give a variety of different effects: stimulating, calming, energizing, building stamina and concentration. At a physical level Yoga gives relief from countless ailments; the practice of postures strengthens the body and creates a feeling of well being. From a psychological point of view Yoga sharpens the intellect and concentration. It also steadies the emotions. The practice of breathing techniques calms the mind. Yoga philosophy, which was systematized some 2000 years ago by sage Patanjali in a single treatise - the Yoga Sutras - teaches the evolution of the individual by the development of self-discipline and self-awareness. In the realm of the spiritual, Yoga brings awareness and the ability to be still through meditation.
